The 5 year wedding anniversary gift, in wood
Botanical art in wood, designed and made in Cheshire. The traditional fifth anniversary material, cut and coloured into something she will actually want on the shelf.
Why wood, and why five years?
The traditional wood anniversary gift comes from nineteenth century Britain, when each wedding anniversary was given a material that grew more durable as the years went on. Paper first, delicate and easily torn. Wood at five.
The reasoning was that a marriage five years in has rooted. Strong enough to hold weight, with enough give to bend in weather. Five years is also, if anyone asks, 1,825 days.
Go beyond the typical wooden keepsakes and wood becomes something else entirely: a medium, the way canvas is a painter's.

Statement Blooms
Eight blooms and five foliage sprigs, composed by hand into one sculptural piece. Sixty seven separate parts, approximately 50 x 45cm arranged, in seven colourways. Each colourway is a signed and numbered edition of 250.
The show-stopper, and the one that takes a shelf to itself.

Wooden Blooms: Botanical Art
Poppily pieces are drawn, painted in flat colour, then precision cut so the colour comes away in crisp facets framed by toasted edges. Maple blooms are turned by hand on a lathe and domed at the back. Every piece is assembled onto bamboo and posable wire stems, one at a time, in a Cheshire studio.

What is the traditional gift for 5 year wedding anniversary?
Wood. The tradition began in nineteenth century Britain, where each anniversary was assigned a material that grew more durable with time. Wood marks year five because a marriage that has lasted five years has rooted: strong enough to hold weight, with enough flex to bend rather than break.
What is the modern fifth anniversary gift?
Silverware. Traditional lists say wood, modern lists say silverware, and both are in current use. In the UK the traditional list is still the one most people follow, which is why wood is what you will find in almost every fifth anniversary gift guide.
What is the traditional flower for fifth wedding anniversary?
The daisy. Year five carries three traditional associations: wood as the material, sapphire as the gemstone, and the daisy as the flower. Poppily's Solo Bloom is a wooden daisy in its own hand printed vase, which covers two of the three at once.
What is the best fifth anniversary gift for her?
It depends whether she wants a memento or an object she will live with. Engraved plaques and keepsake boxes mark the date. A piece of botanical art in wood keeps the material and the meaning, and earns a place on the shelf rather than in a drawer.
How many days is 5 years of marriage?
1,825 days, or 1,826 if a leap year falls inside them. Sixty months, 260 weeks. It is a figure people often have engraved, though it dates the object to a single anniversary rather than the marriage.
